Not all complains are BAD!

Getresponse Problem Needs Attention

Today I received a complain from one of my subscriber and it turned out to be a good news that saved me!

Diana (surname removed for privacy), a new subscriber to my newsletter has trustfully subscribed to my newsletter and expected a download link to my report that I promised on my website. Only to received an invalid link that leads to a 404 Getresponse Error page! I  can imagine her frustrations!

Here is the email she sent to me:

“Your link dose not work so I would like you nto take me offyour e-mail list!”

I was totally surprised to receive her email as I have never received any complains about my download links and I have not made any changes to it recently.

I was also surprised to see my download link has turned into a “getresponse link” shown above. So I tested it, clicked on it and true enough it brought me to a getresponse 404 error page!

I can now see where the error lies. Since Getreponse upgraded their service to 6.0 on 06 July 2009, there has been migration issues of several email delivery settings. Many settings have been changed including links tracking.

Getresponse has this feature known as “link tracking” which tracks click through rates of emails sent out as shown below. Although it is a very useful feature,  I usually don’t opt to use this feature in all my emails as I dont want my links to show as “getresponse” and for fear of what has exactly happened.

Getresponse has misdirected my links!

True enough, I immediately log into my account and found that the feature as been checked! And worst of all, even if I unchecked it, when I go back to edit again, it checked the feature again automatically. So if you saved your email without noticing, it will automatically choose to track links.

So what I can now do is send a support ticket to Getresponse and hope they can solve this problem asap. In the mean time, the trick is to not include any http:// in front of the links in the emails to prevent Getresponse from automatically converting the links into “getresponse tracking links”.

For example:

Getresponse will convert http://www.bobmarketing.com into “getreponse links” but wont convert www.bobmarketing.com

My sincere apologies to my subscribers for this Getresponse problem. Another email is on its way to your inbox with the correct download link.

For those who are using Getresponse service, be sure to check out your follow up emails for this problem before you frustrate your subscribers.

As for Taking off my list or UNsubscribing. I hate spam just like anyone else, that is why all the emails I send come with a unsubscribe link at the bottom as well as a link to change your contact details. So please take note of that if you do decide to take this action.

The World Wide Web & the “www” in front of your domain name

Have you ever realized that it is easier to say “World Wide Web” than “www” when you announce your website to the world verbally? Try it!

Most marketers may not have realized this since we do most of our marketing online, by typing or printing our website url without ever reading it out to ourselves. Even if we do when we do video recordings and audio file to post on websites, we are so accustomed to saying www that we would still announce our website as www.mywebsite.com as it is.

I did not realize this myself until I was in Thailand last month listening to the radio when the DJ announced their website URL as:

“visit our website at world wide web dot my website dot com”

that I found pronouncing the full term to be quicker and easier.

So next time, when you promote your website url in radio, video recordings or audio, why not try pronouncing it as world wide web rather than:

“visit my website at double u, double u, double u dot my website dot com”

or simply omit the www and announce as visit my website at mywebsite.com

As a business owner, it is very important to be proactive in looking for customers. One cannot just sit still and wait for customers to come looking for you.

Nielsen Online and Ad:Tech joined together to create a landscape report looking at the global online media. The report compiles Nielsen Online data in the areas of online video, social media, audience, mobile, and more.

Typically, the online space doesn’t change dramatically from month-to-month or even year-to-year.  But according to Charles Buchwalter, the Senior Vice President of Research Analytics at Nielsen Online, in the past 5-6 years, “this industry has transformed itself.”

The growth is evident not so much in the number of users, but where users are spending their time and how much time they are spending. Not surprisingly, the two biggest areas of growth over the last 2-3 years are online video and social networks. The significant growth of these two areas proves that innovation is still happening despite the current economic climate.

Additionally, there are other areas that are showing positive developments in the midst of the recession. Healthcare, packaged goods, and telecommunications were big spenders in traditional media and were slow to come online. However, those industries are now stepping up their efforts on the Web.

This report has indicated that more and more users are going online, using the social networks including online video. And that they are spending more time on these networks. Hence it is important that businesses adopt social media as part of their marketing strategy to market to the consumers online.

The report even highlights that big spenders in traditional media has realized the potential of social media and are stepping up to increase their presence in the social media online world.

How To Turn Visitors To Buyers

Websites are like a retail outlets especially if you have an ecommerce site or even a simple website selling products, books or services. Many companies have realized how cost effective a website as a store is, since websites can operate 24 hours a day selling to all over the world without much overhead costs.

However, the downside of a website is that there is No human interaction in the sales process to read the minds of how customers are reacting and serve them what they need. Over the years, internet marketers try to overcome this by developing new scripts to present their products better, improve interaction and “read” the behavior of these prospects that visit their website/store.

So what exactly is Twitter?

Twitter is one of the fastest growing social websites online today. Everyone is jumping on board the twitter craze from individual bloggers, professional internet marketers and even corporates.

If you notice on Twitter, you will see international retail companies like Starbucks, international media like CNN, international hotel chains and Airlines all having a twitter account and twittering news and happenings around their companies.

Anyone and everyone on earth should now have their own twitter account, even celebrities have their own Twitter! There are many benefits of having a twitter account, apart from the social aspects of keeping up with friends. Twitter has been used as a site for keeping twitter followers informed of news and promotions of companies. It has been said that many of the latest news comes from individuals who twits in their Twitters account. Twitter can also be used to create loyal followers, drive traffic to main websites and ultimately increase sales.

I have personally tested Twitter, learning from the Twitter Marketing videos on how to use Twitter to attract thousands of followers and drive traffic to my websites. It is truly an internet revolution and has an amazing impact on my business.

How To Set Up Twitter Account

Setting up Twitter Account tand o have your own account is easy, but there are a few things that you should be aware of when organizing your account.  This can apply even if you already have an existing twitter account too, so consider these tips and it can improve your entire Twitter experience.

The first thing to do if you don’t have a twitter account is go to twitter.com which is the main page of Twitter.  You will be asked to either login or register. If you don’t have an account, then of course you will need to register for onw.  So let’s go through the registration process and explain it all here.

How to Register Twitter Account

The Twitter screen will ask you for your first name and last name and will then check this is entered correctly.  A green tick will appear next to the box.

The next screen asks you for a user name and this is where you need to consider how you are going to present yourself on Twitter. You should remember that you can set up more than one account on Twitter, but you will need a different email address for each one.

Now this is where the thinking bit comes in.  The first account you register should always be in your own name if you can get it.  Naturally, common names like JackSmith (there are no spaces in usernames) will already be taken.  However it is possible to get variations on your own name such as Jack_Smith, or Jack_Smith23 or some variation like that.  You can only use an underscore in a username. Hyphens are not permitted in the field.

It isn’t absolutely critical that you register your own name, but I would advise you do if you can, particularly if your name is a special one.  I’m sure the last thing you want is someone else impersonating you on Twitter, or anywhere else for that matter.

If you wish to register a business name, then you can do that of course, but make sure you use your own name in the sign up process so you are identifiable and connected with the company name you register.  The concepts and reasons for operating under each type of registration will be discussed later.

You are now asked for your email address. Email addresses are linked to accounts and you will only be able to use your email address once. For every account you register, you will need a different email address.

The last thing to do is to fill in the Captcha letters and then click on Create My Account.
The next screen will ask if you want to add any of your friends from the popular web based email programs.  You can do this later if you wish.

The next screen presents a short list of people who Twitter asks if you would like to follow. Choose some if you like, but I wouldn’t bother. I prefer to find my own friends on Twitter.

When you click Finish, you will then be taken to your very own Twitter account.  You are logged in and ready to go!

So, head down to Twitter.com and set up your own twitter account now and start twittering
