Seeking crafty crew for projects in Mexico and Uganda - Last April, I toured Uganda teaching people how to sew hammocks, and donated four sewing machines to continue the project which is called Stitch Uganda Together: http://stitchugandatogether.blogspot.com http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=102380&id=906200533#/group.php?gid=2408133160 This April and May I plan to be back in Uganda, and so I'm gathering a crew to tour teaching circus skills, green building and gardening. Re: Cotton Gingham - what about "ticking" ? It comes in several colours and is usually 100% cotton and it comes in different weights, usually medium to heavy. Its not checkerd but it is striped! I find it to be pretty durable....

Re: Full bust adjustment for dolmans/kimono dress - <<If the shoulder to waist (over the bust) is ok, then you need to slash and spread your side panel to create more fullness, and yes, dart or gather it out to fit the existing sew lines . . .>> That's what I did, and it worked quite nicely. Of course, right after I adjusted the pattern and made a new dress, I got a book that explains the modification in depth. Oh well ....

Re: I'm looking for this fabric... - Cat, do you have any Joanne Fabric stores out by you? I'm not sure if they have it - it is really cute - but maybe if they don't, they could order it for you. Sometimes stores have a little more power than us consumers. It would be worth a try to see if any store near you could order it....

I complain that yarn is so expensive when I do such elementary projects at this point - I'll know what to look for now when I go clothing recyling shopping now. Thanks for the tip. I'm learning what to do with the loom knitter things and doing plastic canvas stuff now, so I am constantly looking for balls of yarn at my thrift stores - and there are always sweaters available. Thanks for the great ideas....

Re: Novelty christmas gift ideas...... - A few of my friends make cat nip bag/toys. Trace a very easy pattern or a rectangle, fold over stuff batting and some nip and whip stitch closed. She buys the scrap pcs left over at the fabric stores and thrift shops and makes tons of them. Low cost and easy to make. You can also do dog toys like this too. Stuff with crinkly material like food grade clear cellophane (the crinkly type for wrapping cookies)...

Re: Yard Sale- Fabric, fabric, fabric, awesome clothes!!!!!!! - I use the leather that I get for drum bags , or outfits for fairies..grandbabies,and Ro-Paul my dog, the sweaters become everything from bags, legwarmers, blankets, my favortie is wool then shirk them and make lap bags,pillows or cut them up and redo them into fun coats .capes, sleeping mats .. hats, then more hats ....

Re: Iodine in salt makes no difference in fiber-reactive dyeing - I've sprinkled rock salt over dyed silk and it made some pretty cool crystalized patterns on the fabric. I think it needed a sealling treatment after that as the design softened a bit when I washed the material. - the link to the dye guru looks very informative....
