... Recycle Your Halloween Candy -
So, now that Halloween is over, what do you do with all of that candy? In our household, we used to mix all of the candy together in one huge bowl and hide it away from the kids so that we could control how much they had and when they had it. Usually, it didn't take long to forget about the bowl of sweets only to accidentally come across it later when most of it is beyond it's ideal shelf life.
While I have heard of some parents buying the Halloween candy from their children, or even exchanging them for gifts tooth fairy style, I think recycling Halloween candy into fun crafts is a fun alternative!
What can you make?

... Additional Business Incubator Resources - Business incubator setup varies but it's an extremely low cost way to start your arts and crafts business. Many are around $100 per month, providing you with studio space, access to office equipment, conference rooms and maybe even a receptionist to greet clients and answer your business telephone line. In addition, mentors offered seasoned business advice and in many regards kept members of the program moving forward by giving us action items to complete by certain dates.
I've found some additional resources for arts and crafts business incubators in addition to my original article on the subject of arts and crafts business incubators:
Portland area buisness incubator... Arts and Crafts A to Z Directory - I've recommended getting a subscription to The Craft Report many times in the past. The magazine was revamped a few months back and the improvements are really wonderful. If money or not liking print magazines was an issue for you, the publisher now offers a one year digital subscription for only $19.95.
In any event, this month's issue has an A to Z listing for craft business related topics. Pulled from past issues of The Craft Report magazine, each of the 26 made for a good read. Honestly, most I didn't remember and was happy to refresh my memory on the subjects.
If you don't have a subscription, the magazine is available at many bookstores. The link above also provides info on how you can access for free the January 2011 issue if you want to look before you buy!

This week, I've started my series of articles about the time value of money, which you can use to figure out how much a $1 today will be worth in the future. It's also used to evaluate between different business decisions such as buying versus renting equipment.Using the Time Value of Money originally appeared on About.com Arts / Crafts Business on Monday, November 7th, 2011 at 07:39:09.... Opening a Pop Up Arts and Crafts Store - Lorri Mealey, About.com Guide to Restaurants has a great article up about opening a pop up restaurant. The reason I am mentioning it in the arts and crafts site is because many of her tips can be applied to pop up arts and crafts businesses.
I've written three articles about opening a pop-up arts and crafts shop. Basically, a pop-up is a short-term retail space that appears seemingly out of nowhere, quickly drawing in customers, and then disappears when the optimal selling season is over. Using pop-ups shops are a great way for artists and crafters to have a retail presence during major selling periods during the year.... ... Crafting Metamorphosis Into Art - Really interesting article in the online version of The New York Times about the Museum of Arts and Design and its name metamorphosis from the American Craft Museum.
Since you need an online subscription to read it, to spare you the expense, the interesting point about the article is that the name change was to disassociate the museum from the image of hobby-crafters. As arts and crafts business owners, we know that many, many forms of crafts are indeed pieces of arts.

Arts and Crafts Guide to Prototypes - Another fantastic article over at the Fashion Incubator - this week the topic du jour is What's a prototype and when do you need one?
